Brazos Forum History

In 1985, a dynamic community leader, Jean Warner Epperson, and a group of interested Wacoans formed an organization designed to encourage the study, preservation, and appreciation of American history, art, literature, music, drama, landscape, trade, and the entire spectrum of decorative arts through illustrated presentations and seminars!  Its mission also included providing scholarships for students and teachers in these various disciplines to attend the Forum at no cost.  For the past 37 years, the Brazos Forum has successfully carried out those goals.  Now recognized regionally and nationally, the Forum annually brings interesting and exciting speakers to Waco.  As premiered in 2018, the efficient one-day format was enthusiastically received and will be followed again. 

The first Brazos Forum, held October 8-10, 1985, was a celebration of the Texas Sesquicentennial and was titled “The Decorative Arts of Early Texas, 1890 – 1900.”  Since that time, French, Spanish, Oriental, Victorian, and diverse U.S. regional influences have been explored, as well as specifics such as garden landscaping, presidential porcelain, the history behind our national parks, the Library of Congress, and the back-stories of our well-loved early American music.

Nationally-known speakers, who are recognized experts in their respective fields, come to Waco each year to give illustrated presentations on a vast array of themes and topics.  These men and women offer insight, information, and enthusiasm for their own areas of expertise.
